LOW-VOLUME ASSEMBLY

shutterstock_48908626-small

“Low Volume” assembly can mean a single part on a board, a short run of 50-100 boards, or anything in between. It’s not about the quantity, it’s about a different mentality than large-scale production.  In the low-volume world, we build thousands of prototypes, each with their own set of intricacies. We see every SMT component package, so we know when a part is not washable or when a via is going to thieve solder, just because we’ve had the experience with so many different parts in the past.

Are you looking to get a small circuit board run with specialized requirements like component specifications, level of density, assembly technologies, or component packages?  If yes, then Colorado PCB Assembly is the perfect fit.

As a reliable assembler of PCBs, we offer Low-Volume Assembly services in Centennial, Colorado. Our facility is equipped for Low-Volume PCB Assembly with equipment that is geared for a quick setup. For larger builds, we have different assembly lines that we can dedicate to a single build, always leaving room for urgent orders.

Additionally, we can quickly modify assembly-line specifications and product requirements in a very short time.

Other PCB Assembly solution providers might require high-volume orders. When it comes to Low-Volume Assembly runs, we give the same attention and care you would expect with even large-scale PCB services.

Customer satisfaction is our highest priority, and that means every customer gets top-notch attention and service. Additionally, our in-house quality assurance unit will always ensure that your PCBs meet your performance standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does low-volume mean?

Low-volume means we are able to build just one board. Additionally, it means we can build small production runs. A typical order is between 10 and 50 pieces; however, we are able to build higher quantities.

What are your typical turn times?

We typically quote with a 3, 5, or 10 day turn option, but should you need boards on a 1 day or a 2 day turn, let us know and we will include that in our quote!

Are your turn times reliable?

Yes, not only do we deliver on time, we measure our on-time success by what our customers think is on-time (not what some spreadsheet says).  If it’s not on-time for you, it’s not on time for us.

What are your file requirements?

We require for three sets of files to include:

  1. BOM – preferably in Excel or .csv format (but .txt and .doc are usable).
  2. Gerbers – in RS274X format.
  3. XYRS – this is the pick-and-place file, usually in ascii or .txt. It’s also called the centroid or placement file.
What is the XYRS?

The XYRS file is very helpful to us. Also known as a centroid file or pick-and-place data, this file gives us the X and Y coordinates for each component (X and Y) followed by the rotation (R) – usually in 90 degree increments, and lastly the side (S), referring to top or bottom of the PCB.

Do you usually do turnkey or non-turnkey (consignment)?

About 75% of our builds are turnkey. That way we have control over where the parts come from so we know exactly when they’ll arrive.  Issues can happen during any build – and we prefer to just reorder the parts rather than bother you with the shortage, should one occur.

Where do you order your parts from?

Our approved suppliers list is pretty short. We only order from the most reliable companies, including DigiKey, Mouser, Arrow, and Newark, in addition to the direct manufacturers like CoilCraft, Samtec, and Texas Instruments. Other than these types of trusted suppliers, we do not purchase from any “secondary” chain suppliers.

Are your builds RoHS or leaded?

Whichever you prefer! We default to leaded if the data isn’t available in your files because most of what we build is for internal use or is a prototype. This is so engineers are able to make modifications, which is much easier with leaded solder.

On the quote we email you, we will designate how we plan to build. If you like this changed, just let us know – there is no price difference.

Do you panelize the boards for me?

Yes. If you have us provide the bare fabs, we don’t need anything other than your single-up board files, and we will work with board house to get them arrayed with rails to fit our process.

Can you assemble top and bottom sides?

Yes. 90% of boards we assemble have both top and bottom SMT parts. Our reflow ovens were specifically designed to accommodate parts on top and bottom.
