FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
– What format should the BOM in, and what information should it contain?
- BOMs in Excel work best. The critical information we need is Manufacturer Part Numbers (MPNs), Reference Designators, and part descriptions. It is also helpful to include a quantity column, your part number (if you have one) and a column indicating if a part should be installed or listed as “do not place.”
– What is an XYRS file, and why is it needed?
- XYRS, also known as the pick-and-place file or the centroid data, is a CSV or text file that lists the physical location of each part on the board. It’s not required to quote, but since production needs it during the build, it’s helpful to have it with the original file set.
– How quickly will the quote be completed?
- We return quotes within 24 hours, and many times we return them on the same day!
– What is the difference between turnkey and consignment?
- Selecting “turnkey” for parts or boards indicates you would like us to provide them instead of sending them to us for assembly.
- “Full turnkey” means we purchase the bare boards and the parts.
- “Turnkey boards” means we purchase the bare boards but you supply the parts.
- “Turnkey parts” means you provide the bare boards and we supply the parts.
- “Consignment” means you provide the full kit, including both parts and boards, and we assemble them.
– If I supply my own parts, what are the requirements?
- Parts should be labeled with manufacturer part numbers, the first reference designator in the series, and the quantity contained within the package. Our machines are automated, so extra parts are needed for smaller components. For the full guide, visit our consignment page here.
– Do you use RoHS (lead-free) or leaded solder?
- Both! Many of our customers do not have a preference between leaded or lead-free processes, but many applications require specific solder types, so we offer both.
– What files are required for a quote?
- BOM – In Excel format
- Gerbers – In RS274X format (this is the most common gerber format)
- XYRS – Usually in .txt format, also known as “pick and place” or “placement” file
– Do you build to IPC quality standards?
- Yes, we build to IPC-610-A, Class II. Upon request, we can also build to Class III.
– Where does the assembly actually happen?
- Everything we do is U.S. based, and assemblies are always completed here in Colorado.
